According to the Ministry of Education, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission and Shanghai Maritime University emergency management plans for the spring semester 2020, the university will officially start the online teaching implementation plan for Undergraduates and Graduate courses for the spring semester from Monday, 2nd March 2020. According to the “Administrative Measures for the Management of International Students of Shanghai Maritime University” and the “Implementation Plan of Shanghai Maritime University’s Online Teaching Arrangement for the Spring Semester, 2020”, the university has implemented these management regulations;
1. General Principle
To ensure the progress of online teaching and the quality of teaching during this period, students should adapt the habit of combining online learning with offline self-study, participating in the online discussions during classes time (online Question-Answers) and also submitting all assignment given by Teachers.
2. Requirements During Online Teaching
a. International students must register with the relevant platforms and websites approved by their respective colleges or the Graduate school on time according to the requirements of the university. Students who face difficulty in registering on the various platforms due to certain circumstances must contact their College Secretaries or Teachers by WeChat, telephone or email for further assistance. Students who fail to register without proper reasons will be regarded as non- registered students for this semester and will be treated as absentees.
b. During the online learning process, international students are urged to study each course in accordance with the regulations and requirements of the Teacher. Students must also submit all assignments given to them by their Teachers on time. Teachers evaluate the learning status of students on the teaching platforms and the communication systems. Students who fail to submit their assignments on time are considered as absentees. Students who absent themselves from class for one-third of a course, teachers are mandated to disqualify the student from taking the final examination per the university’s regulations. If an international student is always absent from class for no reason, the university has the right to withhold the stipend of the student as appropriate for that month per the regulations of the university. Moreover, the performance of students for the online teaching platforms will be one of the indicators for the evaluation of student’s scholarships.
c. International students should take the initiative to give feedback to teachers or college secretaries if they encounter any technical or network problem while using the teaching platform. Students who fail to report to the appropriate authorities while facing these problems will bear the consequences.
3. Scholarship Management
Monthly stipend for international students outside China will be suspended. After the university resumes, the monthly stipend will be reissued.
4. Other Management Requirements
International students should also abide by other relevant arrangements and requirements of the Chinese government and the university’s arrangement plans during this prevention period. Students should cooperate with relevant authorities to make joint efforts in fighting Covid-19 and resume regular offline classes as soon as possible.
