The university will select students for the awards of “SMU Outstanding International Student”, “Excellent Organizer and Participant of Activities”, “Scientific Research Award”,and an “Essay on COVID-19 Epidemic Prevention and Control”. The awarding committee will select a total of 27 students for the awards. We hope these awards will motivate students to study harder and actively participate in university activities. The details of the selection are as follows:
SMU Outstanding International Student (awarded to 10 students)
This award recognizes international students who are not receiving a China Government Scholarship or Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship (Class A) during their study period at SMU but have made an excellent academic achievement.
Note:
- PhD students who have extended their studies and are not receiving living allowance are qualified to apply for the award.
Excellent Organizer and Participant of Activities Award (awarded to 8 students)
This award recognizes international students who have an excellent contribution in actively organizing and participating in all activities.
Scientific Research Award (awarded to 4 students)
This award recognizes international students who have published excellent papers or make achievements in science and Technology.
Essay on COVID-19 Epidemic Prevention and Control Award (awarded to 5 students)
A written essay on individual epidemic prevention measures taken during the outbreak of the epidemic till now.
Note:
- Credit will be given to those who served as volunteers either on campus, in China or outside China in fighting the epidemic. Supported recommendations from issuing authorities should be included.
- Applicants for this award can download the separate application form below for writing the essay.
General application requirements
- Language and degree international students in or above the second year of their study program.
- Excellent academic performance, high level of learning and research ability.
- Active in any university activities, social practices and friendly attitude towards Chinese communities.
- Applicants MUST be abiding by SMU, the Shanghai government, and Chinese laws.
- All other things being equal, students with financial difficulties will be given priority.
- The student must have an excellent dormitory record (Applicable to students presently residing on SMU campus ONLY)
Note:
- Students are not allowed to apply for the two awards at the same time.
- With the exception of “Essay on COVID-19 Prevention and Control”, applicants applying for other awards should download the “SMU Current International Students Scholarship Application Form”.
